Mother's East opened on Dorchester Street in May 2026, in the part of South Boston that still looks like South Boston. It is a tavern in the direct sense: a bar, taps, a short food menu that doesn't try to be more than it is.

Prices run cash-and-pint, not Seaport prices, and the Seaport is only ten minutes away. That gap is the whole draw.

Came here late at night after someone recommended the burger, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It was one of the most tender, juicy flavorful burgers I’ve ever had. I do have a couple of suggestions that I hope the owners take as constructive feedback because this place has the potential to serve one of the best burgers around. The patty could use a little more seasoning, it tasted like it was missing a touch of salt or something to really bring out the flavor. I’d also consider changing the ketchup that’s served with the burgers and fries. It’s quite acidic and sadly overpowers the rest of the meal. A different ketchup or a house-made sauce would complement the food much better. Overall, this was an excellent burger, and with those small tweaks, I genuinely think it could be perfect.

This was an amazing bar we found on a trip to Boston. The bartenders were very friendly and made a great whiskey sour. The burger was so good I went back the next day for round 2. I can't recommend this place enough!

This is a fantastic neighborhood spot with a welcoming pub vibe and a killer food program. The drinks were well-crafted, and all the bites we had exceeded expectations. If you live in the area, it's definitely a must-visit, but it's totally worth the drive if you don't.

Southie is SO lucky to have Mother’s. Fantastic cocktails, great menu- honestly what the neighborhood needed. Vibe is great, we will be back many times.
