The Chester Tavern
★ 4.3 · 67 reviews Boston Opened May 2026
Modern American tavern on Dorchester Avenue since May 2026.
The Chester opened on Dorchester Avenue in May 2026, near the Savin Hill end of the strip. It's a tavern that actually cooks, not a restaurant playing at casual.
The bar menu runs later than the kitchen. Useful in a neighbourhood where most places stop serving food at nine.

2x citrus martini; 2x Sam Adams; 1x chicken sandwich with fries… atmosphere was nice… service was nice… the martinis were mid (crushed ice not strained, a bit watered-down)… chicken sandwich was mid (thin breast, not a ton of flavor)… decent overall

Went to dinner with a friend at Chester Tavern and had an amazing time! Drinks were delicious and our server Tyler was attentive and offered great recommendations for what to order. We split a pizza, which was super tasty, and I had a tuna poke bowl, which was fresh and the flavors blended together perfectly. I would highly recommend the Chester Tavern to anyone wanting to have a delicious meal with great service and fun vibes, will be coming back!

Great new local spot! Food was very very good, upscale american food that competes with the nicer spots in Adams village, Lowers Mills and Southie. They have a great draft beer list, and a nice large bar. Service and staff were all super nice. Big upgrade for the restaurant scene in the Savin Hill / northern Dorchester area. Will be back regularly!

My brother and his wife just moved to Savin Hill, so after checking out their new place we headed out for a late lunch. We decided on The Chester because it was a new spot and looked fun. I know it was a Saturday but the music was way too loud for 3:30 in the afternoon with a sparce crowd. We ordered yhe quac and some drinks. Happy to see a decent beer list with Trillium on tap. The quality arrived which was a very small dollop if quac with maybe 14 chips. Not enough to feed the four of us. We ordered tge bean burger, burger and chicken sandwiches. They come with fries, tots or salad. The fries and tots were good, no one git the salad so can't report on that. Food was ok but not great. Happy that my brother can walk there from his place, but I wouldn't rush back. Service was friendly but only ok. She walked by a few times but didn't stop to check in often enough. I want to lije this place more buy they need to step it up some in the crowded restaurant scene of Dit Ave.
