89 Charles

A small cocktail bar lands on a street of antique shops and dog walkers
Charles Street runs on antique shops and dog walkers, so a proper cocktail bar arriving in October 2025 was overdue. 89 Charles keeps the room small and the menu shorter than most, and that's on purpose.
The small plates are built to share across a two-top, not to order as a full meal. Go early. After 8pm on a weekend the bar seats are gone and the wait is real.

Small but mighty subterranean cocktail lounge in Beacon Hill. Dark with low ceilings but welcoming, great vibes (good music but at a level that you can still have a conversation). Neo-speakeasy done right.

Such a sexy space. Wonderful attentive service, compelling cocktail menu. Great vibe for a date or intimate friend hang. You might think you’re in Lower Manhattan—very much like Death and Co or the main bar at Dear Irving.

If you are looking for a perfect spot to celebrate or host an event, look no further. 89 Charles exceeded our expectations. From the early planning process, the team made everything feel effortless. Questions were answered promptly. We knew we had found the best milestone birthday location. On the day of the event, every staff member was attentive, fun, and professional. They added great energy to the night. The birthday guest felt like a VIP. A special thank you to Dave, the mixologists, servers, and kitchen team!

Came to 89 Charles the other day, walking in my first impression was rlly impressed. Low lighting to create an intimate/sexy kind of cocktail place. Our server Crystal, was great even though my date and I came in a little bit later on & stayed until close, they were able to fulfill our request for a cucumber martini which is so appreciated because not a lot of places do… if you can believe it. Everything was timely and not rushed at all. It was such a good atmosphere and I loved the seating, it really makes the space & It’s very easy to stay for a long time. Interested to try more things on the menu! Great place to come on a date or with friends

Sexy, cozy cocktail bar nestled in beautiful Beacon Hill. We made a resi for a weeknight date night, but there was ample seating both at the bar and lounge areas. For cocktails we ordered: Brazilian Connection (very sweet but easy to drink), Charles St Espresso (dark espresso martini with whipped cream *drool*), filthy martini (it was a gin martini), and Hand of Glory (spicy, smoky robust mezcal). For snacky snacks we ordered: Stuffed olives (elevated via nuts, which honestly was the best snack we had), Hamachi crudo (it was good but could have used a little bit of a kick), and Blistered shishito peppers (could have used less bonito flakes and needed salt flakes). So snacks are hit or miss but the cocktails for sure is where its at! Recommend for the vibes and drinks. Eat before or after!
