Modern Mexican tacos on Park and Washington

Tacos, tostadas and a rotating lineup of fresh salsas make La Madre the kind of spot you can order around the table and let everyone pick. The kitchen keeps it modern Mexican without getting fussy about it.

The bar pulls its weight too, with house cocktails that turn this Mill District corner into an after-work default for the office crowd upstairs and residents nearby.

We ate here for the first time last night and the service, atmosphere and food was excellent. Highly recommend ordering pico for the house made chips, and the shrimp tacos. My only complaint is the all gender restrooms. I simply do not like going into a bathroom after men have been in there for hygiene reasons and would suggest having a separate women's restroom.

My partner and I stopped at La Madre for an early lunch, and it may have become my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the Twin Cities. I ordered the huevos rancheros with chorizo, and my partner had the quesabirria tacos. We also shared chips with the verde and norteña dips. Everything was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The huevos rancheros were delicious, and the portion was much larger than I expected for a brunch item. The quesabirria had just the right amount of cheese, and the dipping broth was incredible. I also have to mention the horchata. I grew up in Arizona near the Mexican border, and this was one of the most authentic and flavorful horchatas I have had outside of Mexico. Honestly, it was even better than what I have had at many places there. The service was very good, and the restaurant itself is clean, modern, open, and filled with natural light. Great portions, amazing flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere. We will absolutely be back.

Highly recommend this neighborhood spot. We have been twice now in one week after moving to the neighborhood. From the moment our group walked in, we were warmly greeted and instantly drawn in by the thoughtfully designed, warm, chic interior. We were blown away by the intentional team-effort hospitality. Our server, bartender, and manager connected personally with each person in our group, walked us through the menu making thoughtful and authentic recommendations. The service manager Nina touched our table often and truly worked as a team with our server and bartender resulting in a seamless, efficient, and truly stand-out dining experience. Every dish brought to the table was delicious and flavorful - clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The tacos and lettuce wraps are must-order items. The drinks menu was impressively thoughtful and varied and each cocktail we ordered was balanced, refreshing, and exciting. We customized their Carajillo which outshined most of the Carajillos we have enjoyed over our travels to Mexico. The atmosphere is simultaneously warm and trendy which has clearly established the restaurant as a neighborhood favorite/staple. Can't wait to return to enjoy more of the food menu and the curated cocktail list. Do not miss out on dining/drinking here - you won't be disappointed.

Drove 5 hours to take my son to a concert out here. First stop was here and everything was amazing. Food came out really fast. My son and I really enjoyed it! Highly recommend to anyone who live here or visit!

While in town for a wedding we stopped in on an early Friday afternoon. We had the Happy Hour Nachos and Tacos. Also got the Hot Blonde jalapeño beer. Everything was amazing. The guac on the nachos was amazing and the hot sauce for the tacos was the tastiest hot sauce I've had. A dangerous combination. Makes me miss living near a city. Highly recommend.
