BAS rebuilt its flagship inside a historic Montevideo palace

BAS is basically the Uruguayan uniform at this point: plain, functional clothes priced so you don't overthink it. The 18 de Julio store, the brand's flagship, just came back after a full rebuild, 350 square metres inside the Palacio Brasil.

It's technically a relaunch, not a new shop, but the layout matters. This is a new store concept BAS plans to roll out elsewhere, not a fresh coat of paint. It was BAS's third opening in 2026 alone, a year when most Montevideo retail news was about foreign brands landing in shopping centres.

• The building itself is worth the stop, Palacio Brasil is one of the period frontages still standing on this stretch of 18 de Julio.
