Lifesong Lodge's training-kitchen cafe on Freedom Avenue

Roast Cafe runs as part of Lifesong Lodge in Parklands, and it's built differently from other cafes in the city: a social enterprise that trains and employs local Zambians, with proceeds going back into Lifesong's orphan care ministry. The pies and muffins come out fresh daily and draw steady praise, and breakfast runs alongside a burger menu that's become its own draw.

Some graduates go on to run their own micro-cafes or join hospitality teams abroad. It sits behind ECL Shopping Mall, between Hungry Lion and Cross Roads Lodge.

Good to know

Baked goods sell out, mornings are the safest bet for pies and muffins.
Proceeds support Lifesong's local orphan care work, worth knowing if that matters to your choice of cafe.

What amazing food . Had breakfast and lunch there today. Omlette was amazing but the ribs for lunch were even better . I also appreciate their mission to help the Zambian kids with school and give jobs to locals .

The service was great, the coffee was fantastic and the food was amazing. I got the chicken tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. Compliments to the Chefs.

Love this place! Recently relocated to Kitwe and this has become our regular. Coffee and food are always great 😁😁😁

Great little spot in Kitwe! Food was pretty quick for the 3 of us. We got 2 of the Asian salads and a Korean beef burger! Super nice burger but pretty messy. Wish they had a wet wipe or finger bowl. Excellent service and clean bathrooms👍🏼

Fantastic place. Had a lot of meetings and meals there while organizing an event. Also the profits go to support orphans! The food is very tasty. Would definitely go back, and get their chicken burger often when traveling through Kitwe
