Grill, cocktails, and a late kitchen on Victoria Drive

The Backspace opened on Victoria Drive in Newlands on 27 December 2025, right as the festive season crowd needed somewhere to land after dinner elsewhere. Grill and cocktail bar combined, food served until close. The drinks list runs on signature cocktails that regulars order by name.

Newlands already holds some of Harare's older nightlife spots along this stretch. Backspace is the newest addition, open daily until midnight. Friday nights have become its calling card, a format regulars found in the first weeks.

We did a repeat catch-up dinner and cocktails at The Back Space Lounge Grill and Bar today, and once again it delivered such a great experience. The food was tasty, well-prepared, and the cocktails were refreshing. What made the evening even better was the atmosphere. We spent time playing cards, laughing over the wins and losses, and just enjoying each other’s company. The DJ set the mood perfectly, late afternoon amapiano mixes flowing into a Reggae Explosion Bob Marley edition later in the evening. Good food, good music, good vibes, and even better company. Definitely one of those wholesome catch-up moments.
