A war history museum still adding to its collection today.

President Bouteflika named the museum after Colonel Mohamed Chaâbani, a former commander of the historic Sixth Wilaya during Algeria's war of independence. Its collection has grown past 2,700 historical pieces according to its director, with colonial-era documents and objects still being added.

It sits on Rue Ibn Badis and functions as more than a static exhibit: the conference hall regularly hosts literary talks and veterans' accounts of the maquis. It's a research and memory institution first, a tourist stop second.
