Tapas, wood-fired rice and a sommelier's wine list
Order for the table and get the rice. It's cooked over wood, Spanish-style, and it's the dish that turns a night here into an event rather than a snack.
Five friends opened Cachito together, two of them brothers, and they picked the wine list with actual sommeliers. Go with more than two people. Corner of Alvarado and Corrientes.

Cachito was a big disappointment, but it's a place with room to grow and improve. The idea is good, but the execution isn't the best, hence the 3 stars. However, if I were to base it on my own experience, I'd give it a lower rating. It's worth noting that I work in the culinary field; I'm in the business, specializing in haute cuisine in Italy for the last 5 years. I've also traveled to Spain and France repeatedly to eat and sample the local cuisine, so I believe I have at least a basic understanding of Mediterranean food to evaluate it. That said, let's get to the good points. The bar is small but charming. We visited in the fall, so the outdoor patio was closed. The mise en place was adequate, and the space is cozy and well-designed. They have a physical menu, which seems stupid, but these days QR codes have finally won out. They dare to bring you a sheet with a QR code as your menu, which is appalling and a battle we shouldn't lose. In a restaurant, or in this case, a bar, that isn't aiming to be cheap, QR codes are unacceptable; a physical menu must be mandatory. Now for the bad part: being a WINE BAR, we ordered three wines and they didn't have any of them, even though they were all listed. Their justification was that they no longer worked with that particular winery, so they didn't have anything, but that they had a new one (which they never told us what wines it carried). Anyway, after that, we ordered a Malbec, which came straight from the refrigerator. I reckon the bottle was around 6 or 7 degrees Celsius, which anyone who enjoys wine and knows a bit about it knows is completely unacceptable. You can't call yourself a wine bar and not know how to pour a bottle of wine; it seems incredibly unprofessional. Moving on to the food, the bar claims to serve "Spanish" food, but it's only Spanish in name. We went hoping to try the rice dish, but we gave up before we even got there. We started with some tapas to go with the wine. We ordered two bruschetta with cured ham (the best thing of the night—good quality ham and the bread was quite good). Then we ordered the croquettes (they were fine, tasty, and well-made). Finally, we got what we were most looking forward to and what disappointed us most: the "babe" tortilla. If you've tried a runny tortilla in Spain at least twice, you'll know it's not a "babe" tortilla at all. A runny tortilla doesn't mean it's runny. To begin with, it shouldn't even run at all; it should curdle completely. That means it was poorly made. Maybe it was just a bad day, or I don't know, but I think they create expectations without having a solid foundation in Spanish cuisine and wine culture. The service was slow, especially considering we were just there for tapas; we didn't even order that many hot dishes. It's worth mentioning that when we expressed our concerns, the waitstaff offered us a "Basque cake," which, frankly, wasn't very good. The lemon gel they add is awful, and I would definitely check which cheeses they use to make that Basque cake. The price, as you can see in the photo, was 80,000 (a little over $55 USD) for four people. It was fine for tapas, but not dinner. If we had ordered the rice dish, we would have spent at least another $100 USD.

I'll start by saying that the place is beautiful; very inexpensive for what it offers and what it is. For tortilla lovers like me, I drooled; I highly recommend ordering it, it's delicious. For dessert, I ordered the Basque cake, which had an indescribable creaminess. I'll close by highlighting the excellent service from Sheila (the waitress) and all the staff.

Restaurant specializing in Spanish tapas with an Argentinian twist, perfect to pair with one of the wines on the menu. Excellent service. Very good value for money.
