Real-heat Thai food down a Chinatown lane
Boonchoou keeps the chili levels honest, no dumbing down for the room. It's the kind of heat that makes you order more rice, not less.
The restaurant sits on Heffernan Lane, the narrow Chinatown cut that's easy to walk past from Little Bourke Street. Go for lunch if you want the quiet seating.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend and it was totally worth it. The portions were really generous and everything we tried was delicious. The place has such a nice intimate vibe, perfect for a catch-up with friends or a relaxed meal. Definitely keen to come back and try more from the menu.

This place was a recommendation from a Thai friend so we want to give it a go. They have open space so you can have a sneak peak from the kitchen. I love the vibe and the atmosphere there. The food is quite unique and I can notice that they really care about the flavour, the vibe and the authentic of dishes. Everything we tried is so on point and delicious. Highly recommended the satay chicken skews, duck curry and corn with coconut ice cream dessert. The fish was sold out when we are there :< eventhough it is only 6:30 pm and I believe service can be improved and be more attentive

This restaurant was just a lovely cosy place. The food was seriously outstanding, as was the service. The charred pork jowl was a standout! The papaya salad was also so tasty and perfectly balanced. The drinks were a stand out. We got a plain thai iced tea, as well as 2 specialty drinks - an iced thai coffee with coconut foam and an iced thai milk tea with coconut foam. They were such a wonderful end to our meal. The food was such a standout and I want to go back ASAP ❤️ The only downside was that the pork was a tiny bit too fatty and the chicken was too (satay skewers). They were delicious and charred and so tasty, but just a little fatty.

Such a lovely spot for Thai food in Melbourne! 🇹🇭✨ The ambiance is gorgeous, perfect for a relaxed dinner. Service was fast and the staff were so attentive throughout our meal, really made the whole experience nicer. Loved the variety on the menu, so many Thai dishes to choose from, we'll definitely be back to try more. Only small note: the pork was a touch chewy for my taste, would love to see it a bit more tender next time. Everything else was great though, and we'd happily return! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Only one way to describe Boonchoou - aroi mak mak! The food was delicious, I felt like I was transported back to Thailand. The stars of the show were the Papaya Salad - highly recommend to make it as spicy as possible, it will be like visiting Penang! The pork belly pieces were so succulent that they’d melt in your mouth before chewing, which was unreal. Perfectly complemented by its sauce. The curry left you wanting more, the banana and chicken paired really well, and the richness was phenomenal. I don’t think another curry could compete in this category. The lighting upstairs was alright at best, a bit too dark for our liking, but the atmosphere, laughter and service will make us come back again. Highly recommend this Melbourne spot for a date night or a friends and family gathering. The new must try Thai spot in town! They accept American Express!
