Fried chicken that means it when it says hot

The hot version at ChickyBoi is genuinely hot, not menu-hot. That's reason enough to detour down Brunswick Street for a box of fried chicken, a sandwich or the sides, no bigger ambitions than doing all three well.

It stays open late enough to catch the bar crowd stumbling home, which tells you who this place is really for.

As the restaurant name sounds, they only serve 4 varieties of chicken burgers. We tried 2 of them and the OG one was the best. Spicy chicken was not enjoyable. Chicken fillets were huge. Also, the fillets were bit oily. They also have a change table in their rest room.

My wife and I had an absolute blast at ChickyBoi! We initially came in planning to grab takeaway, but the atmosphere was so welcoming and enjoyable that we decided to sit down and stay. It turned into such a great experience. From the moment we walked in, the owner and staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly and genuinely welcoming, which made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely amazing. Every bite was packed with flavour, the chicken was perfectly juicy with an incredible crispy coating, and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. Hands down the best fried chicken we've had in Melbourne, and the value for money is fantastic. Great food, great people and a great atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Absolutely lived up to the hype! I tried the Honeyboi, and it's hands down the best fried chicken sandwich I've had in Melbourne. Everything was so well balanced. It wasn't overly greasy, the chicken had the perfect amount of spice, the honey added just the right touch of sweetness, the aioli brought a rich, creamy flavour, and the pickled jalapeños cut through it all with a tangy kick that kept every bite fresh. The chicken itself was incredible. The batter was perfectly crispy and crunchy without being overly hard or heavy, so it stayed light while still delivering an amazing crunch. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who loves a great fried chicken sandwich. It definitely deserves the hype. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait, as it gets very busy, seating can be hard to find, and they don't take bookings.

One of the few places where I actually stood in line and thought the hype was worth it! As good a chicken burger gets!!! Succulent breast fillets. Messy but so very tasty . I tried the og and hot honey. Both were sublime! Og had a small spice kick which was welcome suprise as I expected the sauce to carry the burger. Can’t wait to go back again. Downsides are the burger can get ridiculously messy fast! And forget finding a table without a solid wait on the weekend s

I really wanted to love Chickyboi because the atmosphere and service were genuinely fantastic. The staff were super friendly, welcoming, and had great hospitality. The whole place has a warm, cozy vibe that makes you want to stay a while. As for the burger, it was decent, but honestly it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The potato bun was probably my favourite part of the burger—it was soft, fresh, and held everything together really well. The dill ranch was also excellent and added a lot of flavour. The main issue was the chicken. It was a bit greasier than I would have liked, and while the coating was incredibly crispy, it didn’t really stick to the chicken properly. Every few bites, chunks of the batter would come off on their own, which made the burger a little messy and took away from the experience. The chicken itself was also slightly dry. Would I put this up there with some of the best chicken burgers I’ve had? No, definitely not. But at the same time, I wouldn’t say it’s bad either. There are some really nice elements there, and with a few tweaks to the chicken and coating, I think it could be a much better burger. Overall, I’d come back because the staff and atmosphere were genuinely great, but if I’m being honest, the burger itself was more good than memorable.
