A wine bar three minutes from Central, kitchen included

Catching a train? Duck into 40Res first. It's a two-minute walk from Central Station on Reservoir Street, and the kitchen actually backs up the wine list, this isn't just a place to kill time before a platform.

The glass list is short and changes often, so ask what's open tonight. Grab a stool solo at the bar, no fuss, no booking required.

Second time here. Food’s always superb, and friendly service. The Wagyu was too chewy but that won’t stop me from coming back again :)

Had a fantastic evening at 40Res. Even though they were visibly short-staffed, the team handled it amazingly well and our food still arrived right on time. What really stood out was the incredible service from Tom. After a minor mix-up where an order was forgotten, he handled it with complete professionalism and utmost hospitality and honesty. Huge thanks to Tom and the team for turning a potential hiccup into a memorable night. We’ll definitely be back to support!

From the moment you step in the door you are embraced and excitedly welcomed into this family run restarunt, where the emphasis is on you the staff take it in turns to show their people skills and knowledge from the fantastic wines to the food which doesn't disappoint, theres an enthusiastic feeling which enables you to feel at ease and enjoy. When you arrive in Sydney the city opens its arms and says G'Day come and see the opera house, harbour bridge and the culture but if you want to experience the true heart of the city then you absolutely must visit 40res.

Great venue! Stopped by at happy hour and had incredibly cheap international beers and great martini’s. The food had so much flavour. When you order a mortadella sandwich and get centimetre thick slice, that’s mind blowing! I give this place my top recommendation!!

Food was pretty good (steak was rubbery but decent) but the main issue was the ambience of the restaurant. It was raining heavily and there was water leaking from the roof onto our table. There were no other tables to move us to so they placed this gigantic bucket on our table and it just kind of ruined the mood for us. The door (which was directly in front of our table) also had to constantly be left open for ventilation, but we got so cold. They did offer blankets but in my opinion, this table should not be in this spot at all as it will affect anyone’s dining experience
