Gibbons' new home-goods store, straight off Reid Street

Finally, somewhere in Hamilton to buy proper furniture without shipping it in from abroad. Palm Lane is Gibbons Company's standalone home-goods shop, stocked with furniture, bedding and decorative art sourced from as far as India and China.

It's a different scale than Gibbons' usual departments, a dedicated space built for slower, more considered shopping. For a retailer with decades on Reid Street, opening a separate store instead of another in-house department is the real news here.

• It's a home and furniture store, not the unrelated Palm Lane clothing line sold elsewhere, different business, same name.
