A courtyard beer garden hiding behind old hotel walls
Wine, beer and simple food in a walled courtyard 200 meters from the Hauptmarkt. It sits on the grounds of the old Central Hotel Fassbender, and the outdoor space is rare enough in central Trier that it's worth the short walk off the square.
It runs seasonally, roughly March through October, with a Viez and wine festival each September. Skip the indoor tables and grab a spot in the courtyard instead.

A fantastic beer garden in a beautiful setting, and right in the heart of the city! We only discovered it now, towards the end of summer, but I'm already looking forward to next year. There was even some unobtrusive live music. We were truly delighted. Perfect for balmy summer evenings or the first rays of spring sunshine. Mulled wine in winter would certainly be nice too :)

Another little insider tip. A nice little beer garden right on the edge of the city. Just 2 minutes from the cathedral and 3 minutes from the Porta Nigra. They should advertise themselves more. Showing the World Cup ⚽️ on two large screens.
