Chichicastenango's closest thing to a proper cocktail bar

Alfred's Bar is about as close as Chichicastenango gets to a proper cocktail bar, tucked into the colonial courtyard of the Mayan Inn on 8a Calle. The Inn still calls itself a museum as much as a hotel.

Hours run limited and a little irregular, mostly weekend afternoons. It's built for hotel guests first and passersby second. It's a quieter pick than the rooftop bars at Casa Mash, better for a slow drink among tiled courtyards than a night out.

Good to know

• Open limited hours, roughly Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons; check ahead before making it the plan.
• Sit in the courtyard if the weather holds, it's part of the hotel's original 1930s construction.
