Skip the chain cafes. Qua does its own bakery counter alongside coffee brewed the way Chennai's specialty spots do it, a few steps from the beach end of Besant Nagar.

It's ground floor, easy to duck into mid-walk. Go early, before the heat sets in and the pastry case thins out.
