Hidden speakeasy behind a coffee-shop front

Walk past what looks like an ordinary coffee counter in Kota Lama and keep going. A door at the back opens into a bar fitted out like a steamship cabin, dim and a little strange in the best way.

Bojana was one of the first speakeasies in Semarang and still turns up in nearly every list of the district's secret spots. Closed Mondays, and the streets around it, Cendrawasih and Branjangan, have since filled with coffee shops and izakayas.

Good to know

The entrance is unmarked, walk through the coffee-shop front and look for the door at the back.

Good selection of spirits and single malt. If you are after beer and asahi is your drop, then it’s great also. Suprisingly good range of Islay. You need to look hard to find it. Great success
