Seoul-style cafe made for couples and camera rolls
Pastel walls, film-camera props and a midnight closing time set First Date apart from Semarang's daytime cafe crowd. It's styled after Seoul's cafe scene down to the last detail, with pastries, coffee and dessert plates built for the table shot as much as the taste.
Other new openings around the city have picked up the Korean-cafe look too, but First Date leans into it harder than most. It's built for couples and photos, not the laptop crowd that fills Little Contrast and Sektor 1 nearby.

Dateng buat lunch jam set 12, ternyata ngepas banget jam 12 direfill rotinya. I got to taste the original salt bread, it's good but never taste any other brand so cant compare. But it's good.

I visited First Date by Kays back in February and had a really good experience overall. Iga Bakar Sambal Matah and Penang Char Kway Teow were my favorites, super tasty and totally recommended! The price is worth it considering the portion and quality. They also offer a wide range of food, drinks, and breads, which makes it interesting to try different things. Overall, a great place with nice ambiance and good food. Would definitely come back!

Overall it’s okay, but the Creamy Lemon Yakult menu seriously needs to be R&D-ed again! When me and my friend tried it, the taste was honestly a BIG NO. It was way too sweet, like too sweet to the point it’s hard to drink. The flavor was also super dominated by the sweetened condensed milk(?), so the sweetness from the milk completely took over the whole drink. Because of that, we literally couldn’t enjoy it. The taste only became kinda neutral after I mixed some unsweetened iced tea into the Creamy Lemon Yakult drink. One more thing, maybe the staff could be a bit friendlier and smile more, professionalism should still be maintained. Thank you. 😊

Tried this relatively new restaurant in Semarang. Unfortunately, the salted bread was already sold out, so didn’t get a chance to try it. Misoa soup – 7/10 Comfort food. Clear broth, slightly salty but still enjoyable. Nasi Campur Firstdate – 7/10 The rice is savory and on the salty side. The sate lilit was decent, and the chicken betutu and urap were tasty with a nice savory flavor. Nasi Lemak Mak-mak – 7/10 The meat was tender. The rice tasted more like nasi liwet rather than traditional nasi lemak. Soto Betawi – 5/10 Doesn’t resemble Soto Betawi at all, but flavor-wise it’s okay. The meat was tender. Rib eye steak – 5/10 The meat was quite thin, but the sauce was good, more like a BBQ-style sauce. Truffle angel hair – 5/10 The sauce was actually nice, but the angel hair pasta was overcooked and too soft. Coffee – 2/10 (not my taste) The butterscotch coffee had no coffee taste at all. The pistachio coffee tasted very artificial, with a strong essence flavor The place is nice, Instagrammable, and suitable for hanging out. However, the music/noise level was too loud, making it a bit difficult to have a conversation. It might be because I came during lunchtime, and it was very crowded.
