Mario Cafiero opens his own gelateria, carrying his father's Sorrento legacy forward

Mario's opened on Via Santa Maria della Pietà on March 21, 2026. Mario Cafiero, son of Antonio Cafiero, the longtime pastry chef at Sorrento's Gelateria Primavera, built his own shop instead of taking over the family one, though it's unmistakably tied to his father's decades in the trade.

The gelato and pastry recipes draw on the same family tradition that made Primavera's name, adapted for Mario's own space rather than copied outright. It's one of the few spots in Sorrento's dessert scene where the next generation opens under its own name while staying visibly connected to an established family history.
