No pastries, no filler menu, just a counter and a few seats on King Street where matcha is the whole point. The usucha is the honest test of the place.
King Street sits in the old clan-association quarter and stays quiet most days. Sweetened lattes are here too, for anyone who wants matcha eased in rather than straight.

Ordered the Kisa Matcha and Hazu Hojicha. Both tasted great, and the flavors were well balanced. The only thing that threw me off was the mouthfeel. The foam had large, airy bubbles instead of the fine, creamy microfoam I was expecting. It didn’t affect the taste, but a creamier texture would make the drinks even more enjoyable.

This was the matcha that kick started my matcha addiction!! I love their matcha so very much. My favourite is Kisa, which has very little bitterness, but is creamy and umami. It is my go-to every time I visit. If you have never liked matcha due to its grassiness or bitterness, this flavour is a very good one to start with. But beware, it might just make you addicted to matcha as it did to me 😂 I have never found better matcha in Penang than this brand here, so I highly recommend matcha lovers to stop by and try their matcha when you are in Penang. The outlet is nearby Esplanade, and is rather close to the cruise port in Penang. I'm so happy they finally have a permanent place. Will make this a regular spot from now on ❤️
