⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our Visit to Fontanella Tea Garden, Mdina Fontanella Tea Garden is undoubtedly one of the most famous cafés in Malta, and its location is absolutely stunning. The terrace offers beautiful panoramic views over the island, making it a lovely place to take a break after exploring the charming streets of Mdina. Of course, we had to try the famous Chocolate Cake. While it was good, it didn’t quite live up to the hype for us. We’ve tasted richer and more memorable chocolate cakes in other countries, so we weren’t as impressed as we expected to be. That said, desserts are a matter of personal taste, and many visitors absolutely love it. The service was friendly, and despite the café being busy, everything was well organised. Helpful tips for visitors: • Visit in the late afternoon for the best light and beautiful views from the terrace. • Be prepared to wait for a table during peak season—it’s one of the busiest cafés in Malta. • If you’re not a chocolate lover, don’t hesitate to try one of the cheesecakes or other homemade desserts instead. • Even if the cake doesn’t become your favourite, the atmosphere and panoramic views alone make the visit worthwhile. Overall, we enjoyed the experience more for the setting than for the food. Fontanella is worth visiting at least once when you’re in Mdina, especially for its spectacular terrace and unique atmosphere.

Incredible food, great service, great atmosphere. Tried the pastizzi — which had only one flavour available as the others were out of stock (this is a very popular restaurant). Not for me personally, perhaps an acquired taste. We ordered a Maltese pizza and a Maltese sandwich. Both were fairly decent and both very authentic and unique. The fresh orange juice was a target of wasps, but the waiter was very kind and provided us with a new glass given we didn’t fancy drinking wasp juice. Great atmosphere too. Sitting in the upper terrace rewards you with a beautiful view of northern Malta. The best part of it for me was the hospitality. All the staff love their job and were very kind and welcoming.

It’s super crowded yet once you find a spot, you will enjoy it, especially if you can manage a seat over the view. Cake is ok but pizza is a good deal, big and tasty.

The best tuna ftira I’ve ever had! It was incredibly flavorful, fresh and absolutely delicious. I also tried the orange and almond cake, which was very tasty and moist. It was a little on the sweet side for my taste but still excellent overall

Absolutely amazing cakes with a lovely view from the fortress of Mdina. The drinks were lovely, and even in the coffee area the savoury options were plenty for a lunch or light evening meal. It's the cakes that were a stand out though, our group tried a few and they were all delicious!
