Mochi lava buns and dirty coffee on the Haarlemmerdijk

The soymilk black sesame mochi lava bun with kinako is five euros and unlike anything else on the Haarlemmerdijk. Meili is a small Asia-inspired bakery baking the whole counter fresh on site every day.

There is tropical fruit cake, cookies with Asian flavours and specialty coffee, including the dirty coffee, a hot espresso shot dropped into cold milk foam that Emma de Thouars made famous here with her videos from China. Go before the afternoon empties the case.

Came by on a Tuesday afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all. The staff were really friendly and the place had a nice vibe. I tried the peach Basque cheesecake and the Sichuan spicy beef ciabatta, both were really good, but the ciabatta was definitely the highlight for me. Super tasty and such a unique combo, especially in the Netherlands. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it here before. Will come back soon to try some other stuff!

Love the concept of this bakery. The place has only a few seats however, it’s worth trying it out because the ambiance and service are great. The black sesame latte was good but the patisserie was not really my cup of tea,I expected more black sesame filling.

The best Asian bakery in Amsterdam! I tried the Hojicha Banana Latte and Blueberry Matcha Chocolate Cream Puff, and they tasted so good! Super smooth and creamy without being too sweet or greasy.
