A marketplace for local makers in a former travel bookshop

Marte Lier, Nick Boer and Ruben Everts took the premises that travel bookshop De Oude Zwerver had left behind and opened De Nieuwe Markt there in March 2026. They describe it as a marketplace: new and second hand clothing, upcycled pieces, art and objects from makers in and around the city.

One of the labels on the rails is Nona Studios, run by Meike Noa Kootstra, who cuts old menswear down into blazers, tops and shorts. The street was chosen deliberately, because it already held the kind of independent shops the three of them wanted to stand next to.

Very cool clothing shop! They also sell plenty of art, prints, paintings, and more. The staff is also very friendly, and happy to talk and help you with any questions.
