Dutch classics and a bar in the old Schoevers building

Lucas Jeffries cooked at Proefstand and at Renilde in the Depot before taking over the kitchen here. His card leans on Dutch classics made lighter, à la carte or as a three-to-five course chef's menu that changes monthly. His partner Ines picks the wines.

The bar takes the left half of the room and opens every day for the daily special and small plates. The name honours Mies Lanen, who ran a training institute for young women in this building. The walls carry mostly work by female artists. Open since 15 October 2025.

Had brunch here and really enjoyed it. The food was excellent, especially the eggs Benedict on brioche toast, which stood out. The wine and champagne selection is also very good. The interior is beautifully done: calm, cozy, inviting, and effortlessly tasteful. Service needs improvement, but nonetheless worth visiting.

A lovely restaurant in a historic building. We chose the 3-course surprise menu. 55 euros for 3 courses, bread, and friandises. We mentioned that one of us was gluten-free, and if that was a problem, it wasn't. The sandwich was served, and we asked if it was gluten-free. It wasn't, so we got a new sandwich for my girlfriend. Then we were served diced coalfish in a green dill sauce. It was delicious, but it was the cheaper option on the à la carte menu, which I find a shame when choosing the surprise menu. The same went for the main course. (Together, these dishes cost 37.50 à la carte.) Pork neck with sweet potato, delicious rosti, and a salad. For dessert, cardamom cream and cheesecake. With the main course, the host recommended a glass of red Rioja, which turned out to be 10 euros per glass. He charged 4 for each glass, but we each only had one. With tea, we still got a biscuit with gluten, and when we asked for the friandises because they weren't available, even though they were on the menu, I got a piece of butter cake and Suus a piece of Turkish delight. We had a great meal, the service was friendly, but there are some areas for improvement, especially regarding attention to allergens and the wine recommendations. Oh, and a surprise menu should be more surprising than a la carte, and not more expensive than if you had bought it separately—just a tip.

I really liked the place – the interior is exactly the style I like: clean, tidy, and cozy. You immediately feel comfortable. The food was delicious. The bread was truly wonderful (I tried two different kinds). You can tell they pay attention to quality. The waitress was a very friendly young woman. She knew exactly what to say and was professional, not too much, but certainly not too little. The only downside my friend and I noticed was the price of the cinnamon roll. After all, it's "just" a coffee roll and not a complicated dessert, so the price seemed a bit high to us and not quite in line.
