Specialty coffee and lunch rolls on de Fred

Caffè Josèt sits on Frederik Hendriklaan, the Statenkwartier shopping street locals call de Fred. It pours specialty coffee at the pricier end of the scale and keeps a short list of lunch rolls next to it.

Most people grab it to go, same as everyone else on the street. De Buik had it on their list of Hague openings before the doors even opened.

A lovely new cafe wirh great drinks, I'm particularly impressed by their Acai bowl. However im reaaaallly not a fan of how they serve all drinks in plastic cups, even if you're sitting inside. Edit: bumped to 5 stars because sit in customers now get proper glasses instead of plastic cups ☺️

The place itself is very pretty. Iced latte was very good, matcha was ok. Panini with egg and truffle was pretty good but it was impossible to eat, was falling apart, dripping and they didn’t give any cutlery or napkins. The cookie was also very doughy, not fudgy— not really my type. It was difficult for me to communicate with staff, it was very unclear what the girl, who was working there, was saying.

Very modern interior with an elegant, old-style feel and strong branding. Chic uniforms, even matching shoes. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Buying such a high-quality coffee setup, perfectly styled with wooden details, and then seeing the barista treat it with… lack of professionalism is just painful to watch. I was not surprised. The coffee tasted really awful and bitter. Hopefully, in the future the baristas will actually pay attention to detail and treat the coffee beans with more care. 🥺 Would I come back? Yes, definitely. For a coffee? Definitely not.
