Paint your own ceramics on the Oudegracht wharf

A wharf cellar on the Oudegracht, a stone's throw from the Dom, where you pick a piece of bisque and paint it yourself. The room is pastel to the point of comedy, and the second Clay Atelier in town.

Book a table online first, it costs fifteen euros, then choose your piece on the spot from around twenty. Firing takes a week or so, so it's a reason to come back.

Great fun to do, but very expensive for what it is. 5 minutes of instruction on how many layers of paint to apply and that the colors bake differently, and then 2 hours of working on your own (not to mention washing up your used materials yourself). Didn't see anyone again for tips or ideas. So you pay for the workshop, then also the top price for the raw ceramics, plus a terrace price for drinks (and cake).

Nice place, nicely decorated, and lots of options regarding ceramics to paint. Very fun to do, and the people working there are nice and helpful. 2 hours was just really a bit short for a larger item (you had to varnish and repeat everything multiple times); I had little time for the details that could really finish it off. Furthermore, I think that at least one cup of coffee or tea should be included in a workshop that costs more than €60. Currently, you paid more than 3 euros extra per cup for that.

Super nice location on the Ouden Gracht in the vaulted cellar. Fun activity to do, nice that stencils were available.

We had an incredibly fun afternoon! Upon arrival, we were first allowed to choose (or buy) a ceramic bowl or small pot to paint ourselves. Handy tools were available, allowing everyone to create something beautiful, regardless of their experience. While painting, it was possible to enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious piece of cake. The location was atmospheric and everything was taken care of down to the last detail. You can tell that they know how to give their guests a cozy and creative afternoon here. I get to pick up my project in 3 weeks. Highly recommended!
