A pottery studio to actually get your hands dirty in

Never touched clay? Sophie van Mierlo trained three years as a ceramist before opening this studio in Leidsche Rijn, and the beginner courses are built for exactly that nerves-and-clay first attempt. Regulars get an open workspace and their own wheel time.

Book ahead. Spots go per workshop and there aren't many, so walking in on a whim won't get you a seat.

Super cozy atmosphere!

I had a very nice afternoon during a pottery workshop at Sophie Potterie. The place is easily accessible by car and also public transport (there is a short walk from a bus coming directly from Utrecht Centraal) The workshop area is cozy and inviting with 8 workstations so you could go with a group of friends as well. They also offer refreshments which was a nice touch, especially when the weather is hot. The instructors are very sweet, helpful and inclusive and you can see that they really enjoy their work (even though I'm a complete beginner, they showed me the ropes and I managed to make a clay bowl by the end of the session!) They can also offer the workshop in English so no worries if you don't know Dutch. Overall, it's a very nice way to spend your time and I would definitely try it again 😃

We took a wonderful pottery workshop here last weekend. What a lovely space and good, relaxed guidance! And we also have a nice souvenir of the day in the form of a beautiful little bowl and a nice ashtray. As an added bonus, we got there in no time by bus. We will definitely be doing this more often!
