Arctandria

Whale, stockfish and Arctic catch above the harbour

Arctandria sits upstairs in the Vertshuset Skarven complex on the Tromsø waterfront, serving the old coastal menu: whale, seal, stockfish and shellfish alongside cod and other familiar fish. The kitchen sticks to North Norwegian tradition rather than chasing trends.

Wooden rooms look out over the harbour and the mountains across the water. Downstairs, the Skarven bar and kro pull a rowdier crowd.

Arctandria SjømatRestaurant was a very nice experience. I had the halibut, and it was genuinely tasty — even though I normally do not really like fish. The highlight of the visit was definitely the waitress. She was extremely kind, patient, and helpful. She took the time to explain the menu, talk about the different kinds of fish, and guide me toward something I would actually enjoy. That made a big difference, because fish is not usually my thing. Her friendliness and attention made the whole evening feel much more personal and welcoming. The price was on the medium-high side, but for Norway and the quality of the food, it felt fair. The dining room was also very nice and comfortable. Overall, a very good fish restaurant with excellent service. I would happily go there again.

Nice and cozy atmosphere with a lovely view over the harbor. The food is good and very typical of the city, perfect if you want to try something local. I had a really good glass of white wine and the fried salmon, which I absolutely recommend. The staff is very kind and welcoming. Overall, a really pleasant place to eat in Tromsø 💚

One of the recommended restaurants for local Norwegian fare, the Arctandria is a fairly cozy place to dine in. I ordered their signature seafood dish, the Stockfish. I found it thoroughly satisfying in both taste and quantity, and at a decent enough price (180NOK). There are tables for larger groups (6-8) which definitely require reservations, but most tables were suited for 2-4 guests. As with most dining places in Norway, reservations are needed to secure your table. Despite not having reserved, the staff was able to accommodate me for a solo dining table at around 6 pm, which I was grateful for. Service was responsive and pleasant. I do recommend the restaurant, especially if you're able to get a table that gives you a view of the mountains and sea around Tromso.

Visited 07 March ‘26, 8.30pm slot. Recommended by the tour guide. As local as possible, in terms of settings, menu and seafood. Seasonal catch, and the signature dried stockfish (cod) is amazing. One point on the king crab starter though, this is over grilled to the extent that the meat is dried up and stuck on the shells. Seasoning is perfect however. P.s.: thanks to Kristina for the great and friendly service despite being a busy and fully booked night!
