A modern kitchen on Stakkevollvegen, north of the centre

RUDA runs a contemporary menu out of Stakkevollvegen, part of the wave of restaurants opening north of Tromsø's centre. The kitchen leans on regional produce and keeps the room relaxed and modern.

It's a newer name, away from the tourist strip. The crowd here is mostly local, not passing tourist traffic.

Bar none the best dining experience I have ever had in Tromsø. Exceptional food!!! And the NICEST service. I've dined at two star Michelin restaurants that were not up to par with RUDA!

Fish soup Organic Salmon from Brødrene Karlsen (Husøy in Senja) Dill and yoghurt I ordered two starters and a dessert. I really enjoyed the fish soup, generous chunks of fish in a flavourful broth that wasn't overly creamy, which left enough room for the salmon. The salmon itself was slightly rich, but the truffle seaweed helped balance the creaminess nicely. The dill and yoghurt combination was particularly refreshing and worked very well with the fish. If you're not a big eater (or, like me, not particularly keen on potatoes), it may be worth considering the à la carte options rather than a set menu.

We loved it. We had the sourdough bread and fish soup for starters, and the reindeer, tenderloin and the fish for main. Everything was flavorful, cooked perfectly, and delicious. Great service too.

My father and I had the pleasure of dining at Ruda during our stay in Tromsø, and from the moment we walked in, we were struck by how beautiful and thoughtfully designed the restaurant is. The atmosphere is elegant yet warm, with a cozy Scandinavian charm that immediately makes you feel at home. It’s the kind of place where you can relax and fully immerse yourself in the dining experience. What made our evening even more special was the incredible kindness and professionalism of the staff. Everyone was genuinely welcoming and attentive, always ready with a smile and eager to ensure we were comfortable. You can clearly feel that they care deeply about their guests and take pride in offering not just a meal, but a memorable experience. My father ordered the catch of the day, and it was outstanding — perfectly cooked, fresh, and beautifully presented. Every bite reflected the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the kitchen. As a vegetarian, I often find my options limited when traveling, but here I felt truly looked after. The chef kindly prepared a cauliflower soup especially for me, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Creamy, delicate, and perfectly balanced in flavor, it is honestly one of the best cauliflower soups I have ever tasted — and I can say with confidence that even in Italy it is incredibly difficult to find one this good. Dining at Ruda was not just about eating; it was about feeling welcomed, valued, and pleasantly surprised. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Tromsø. It is a place where passion, quality, and hospitality come together beautifully.

Went on Valentine’s Day and had already eaten well at lunch time so were grateful to be able to order a selection of small plates, staff were very accommodating to this. Considering the resturant was full for Valentine’s Day staff were attentive and friendly. We had wine by the glass, all of which was lovely. Wonderful use of local and sustainable ingredients. Standout dishes were the reindeer with blueberries and the organic salmon. They also cure their own meats. Top tip, you can easily get the local bus as there is a stop very close by. It takes about 10-15 mins from the centre of Tromso.
