Mathallen runs as both a delicatessen and a restaurant in Tromsø, selling and cooking the meat, fish and specialities of North Norway. The menu is short and changes with what's fresh that week.

You can eat in at the counter or take the same reindeer, cod and cured meats home to cook yourself.

Great dining experience in Tromsø at Mathallen restaurant , the atmosphere was very good and the food was excellent. I highly recommend the 5 courses menu , seriously it was very tasty. We had langoustine , turbot and whale wich was in season just for 2 months we were told !!! They even have a wine bar next door . Definitely worth a Michelin star over this artic circle destination.

(March 2026 review): we chose the 4-course menu, and were very satisfied! All the dishes tasted amazing, super fresh ingredients, and we could see them being prepared right in front of us. We made a same-day reservation, and even had to delay it a bit due to our flight. The staff were accommodating and super friendly - we felt well taken care of. Fair price & quality, definitely worth it!

Incredible meals in this cozy restaurant. We’d gone around 2:15 pm and easily found a table for four. The cod and salmon were amazing!

Chose the 3 course menu — salmon with sesame and fried onion, winter cod with cabbage and potatoes, and basque cheesecake with raspberries and white chocolate crunch. Really nice lunch with a couple of glasses of excellent wine and very nice service. Relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. I’d visit again.

We had an amazing time at Mathallen ! The food was delicious and the staff really nice. We didn’t take the whole menu with the 4-5 courses, but still had a very good time !
