Cerámicas Emilia

Watch Nazca pottery made the way it's been made for centuries

Cerámicas Emilia is a family workshop off the Panamericana near the airport, where potters still shape and fire pieces using pre-Hispanic Nazca techniques. You can watch a piece go from clay to kiln instead of just buying it off a shelf, including the trophy-head motif pulled from Nazca iconography.

The family runs occasional classes for school groups and lets content creators film the process. It's a detour for people who care about the craft, not a quick souvenir stop on the way to the plaza.

Good to know

  • Worth the trip out only if you actually want to see the ceramic process, not just buy a souvenir.
  • Check their Instagram before visiting, hours can shift.

I like the man who gives me information ( I think he is the owner) . He has a spirit and is happy to tell stories. The shop is very simple.

The proprietor Pedro gave a short talk/demo on the ceramic history on the area, very informative (it's all in Spanish, except he speaks slowly and clearly and is quite understandable by the novice spanish speaker). All free, no pressure to buy

Absolutely amazing. We were given a brief but extremely informative lecture on how the pottery is done and how it mimics the ancient Nasca peoples. You are able to buy their handmade goods to bring home. All gorgeous designs and extremely reasonable prices.

Friendly and informative. 3 generations of potters who make wellcrafted archaeological reproductions and beyond. Located at the airport entrance. Great way to wind down after an exciting aerial tour. Six soles is to get back to the city.

Very interesting and informative stop to learn about the making of these traditional Nazcan ceramics from the family of the man who rediscovered the means to make the traditional ceramics. His grandson explained the materials used and the techniques, including the secret final step. But you'll have to go yourself to find out. The museum/shop has hundreds of fabulous examples of the craft at very fair prices and there is absolutely no pressure to buy. I wish I could have bought several of the pieces but they would have been hundreds of pieces by the time my backpacking trip was over. I think I need to make a return visit.
