Ecuadorian coffee and a living room vibe in St. Johann
Cristian López and Nora Wey opened S'coole Alpaca in Lysbüchel, St. Johann in January 2026, built around specialty coffee they source directly from Ecuador. Snacks come partly from their own kitchen and partly from other local businesses, and the café hosts the occasional concert in a relaxed setting.
No sleek design here. The name and the focus on sustainability and togetherness point away from Basel's more polished coffee openings, toward something closer to a neighborhood living room.

Cozy café with Ecuadorian roots. A must if you look for good (also specialty) coffee and tasty food without pretentiousness.

Had a little lunch today at this beautiful place. We had a very good time, the ambiance is warm and cozy, everything looks great, premium coffee and handmade cups definitely stand out ! Beautiful ! Service was tip top. ( one of the best cheesecake I’ve had in a while🤩) Amazing place, I will come back whenever I stay in the region of Basel ! :)

Such a beautiful cafe tucked away in St Johann. The coffee is exceptional (flat white in photo), made with love by people who care about the coffee they make. The atmosphere is ideal for getting work done, taking a break, meeting with pals, whatever you need. 10/10
