Coffee lab by day, wine bar by night, run by three engineers
Brü opened on Grenzacherstrasse at the end of March 2025, started by three engineers, Jorge, Felipe, and Camilo, who turned their coffee obsession into a business. By day it runs as a coffee lab, brunch spot, and shop, then by night it shifts into a wine bar serving Mediterranean small plates.
The croissants come from Atelier Okashi in Zurich, alongside pastries made in house. The concept worked well enough that the trio opened a second location, Brü The Coffee Lab, inside the Starbites Foodhall on Sternengasse.

Brü truly became my safe- place. The food, the matcha, the staff and the atmosphere is really not comparable to any cafe. I can work there, meet my friends or do even business meetings. Thank you guys for every time you provide such a flawless experience - you're truly a blessing to Basel!

Stopped here for a coffee which turned into a snack which turned into lunch. The food was outstanding and the coffee the best I had around town the whole trip. Backed up by a friendly staff happy to go the extra mile and we’ve got a winner.

I was in Brü yesterday for a quick coffee break. I was welcomed with such kindness and professionalism that I never wanted to leave. Moreover the breakfast was delicious: I had a double espresso with chocolate profile but I can’t resist to taste even the other one (with fruity profile). I finish my breakfast with a brownie, love it! Thank you all Brü, can’t wait to be back!

The service was extremely slow, but the staff apologised for that with two strawberry matchas on the house. We ordered a salmon tartine and an avocado & egg tartine both very good i might say.

I came looking for a vegan focaccia I saw in a previous review (9 months ago) but they don't have focaccias anymore. I asked if they could replaced the cheese of the avocado toast for sundried tomatoes and they accepted but they charge me the normal price of the avocado toast plus the addition of the tomatoes. I didn't ask if they were going to charge me for the addition but I would think removing cheese and adding tomato should amount to the original price. In any case, I should have asked I guess. Cappuccino with oat milk (oatly) was very nice. As a vegan I recommend the place for a coffee not for eating.
