A fine grocery with an Asian aisle you won't find elsewhere in Monastir

Maison Elmestiri opened at 5pm on October 2, 2025, next to Université El Hidaya. It's a fine grocery, not a corner shop: cheese, charcuterie, dried fruit, spices, and a stretch of imported Asian pantry items.

That last part is the draw. Grocers stocking soy sauce, specific rice varieties, or Asian condiments are still rare outside Tunis. Maison Elmestiri has picked up a following from people who used to drive to the capital for the same shopping list.

  I'm a tourist from Saudi Arabia. I visited the place and it's truly beautiful and wonderful. The prices are reasonable and the merchandise is lovely; I found the products to be fantastic.
