Maçakızı is as close to an institution as the modern Bodrum peninsula has, a boutique hotel and restaurant on the Türkbükü waterfront whose jetty and long lunches became shorthand for the smart end of the Aegean. The kitchen works a refined Aegean menu, mezes and seafood built on local produce, in a setting the Michelin Guide recognises.

Lunch stretches into the afternoon on the deck over the water, and the crowd is the international set that summers here. It's a see-and-be-seen destination as much as a meal, priced to match. Book well ahead in high season.
