Café by day, wine bar by night on Bruntsfield Links

Margot opened on Barclay Terrace in March 2024, the younger sibling to LeftField, run by the same family team. By day it's a relaxed café facing Bruntsfield Links, serving brunch, lunch, coffee and pastries. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings the same room turns into a wine bar, with small plates replacing the daytime menu.

The dual format makes it one of the more flexible spots in Bruntsfield's food scene, good for a weekday coffee or a Friday glass of wine without booking a full table. Its spot on the edge of the Links gives it one of the better views of any café around.

Good to know

  • It runs as a café by day; the wine bar with small plates only opens Thursday to Saturday evenings.

Uninspiring service - didn’t even ask if we wanted anything to drink with our order and quickly left once we gave the food order. Food was quite good, notable mention to the Turkish eggs. French toast tastes just okay as the berries overpowered the taste of the earl gray. Place smelt like I was in the kitchen, quite unpleasant to start the day like that.

This is such a cute cafe and the coffee and baked goods are always delicious. I’ve been back a few times and it’s important if at peak weekends to book in advance. Love the mains too, I will be coming back :)

Went for a solo brunch on my birthday and it was so tasty! Servers were lovely, but I do wish there was a better option for smaller walk-in parties to sit at than high bar tables. I’m not very tall and it’s not the best sitting experience. But, totally makes sense when you’re busy. The turkish eggs were so yummy and I cleaned the plate. And the cold brew was a great accompaniment to my brunch.

A small cosy cafe serving interesting breakfast, brunch and lunch. They have interesting breakfast options which is not typical. Most of the menu is seasonal and so worth trying different options. The coffee is great too.. Worth visiting if you are in the area.

Lovely brunch spot. Delicious array of treats and pastries. Dog friendly. Great view of Bruntsfield Links.
