Elephantine Bakery

★ 4.8 · 175 reviews Boston Opened September 2025

Middle Eastern bakery on Congress Street, open since 2025.

Elephantine opened on Congress Street in 2025 baking on a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern line: za'atar, tahini, pistachio, syrup. Mornings are the busiest and the shelves thin out fast.

They run aperitivo evenings Thursday through Saturday in the same room, which is an odd second life for a bakery and works better than it sounds.

I've tried Elephantine in Portsmouth, so was excited to finally try the Boston location! We got the pain au chocolat, which I didn't think was that great. Could've been more flakey and chocolatey. The lemon Madeleine was very nice and buttery! I especially liked the lemon glaze on top. We also got the olive ficelle, which was a bit tough to chew but had plenty of olives and flavor. The iced chai latte had good flavor. Overall, the items we tried were all good but not amazing. The madeleine was my favorite of the things we tried. Their brunch dishes looked good -- maybe we'll swing by for a full meal in the future!

Such a beautiful space! Elephantine offers an incredible variety of pastries, and one of my absolute favorites was the feta and honey Danish—perfectly balanced with sweet and savory flavors. The café has a wonderful seating area that makes it easy to relax and enjoy your meal. Their brunch menu is equally impressive. I ordered the Poached Egg Çılbır, and it was phenomenal. The labneh was rich, flavorful, and tied the dish together beautifully. Between the inviting atmosphere, outstanding food, and the warm, friendly staff, this was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I’ll definitely be visiting again!

Cute brunch spot that definitely lives up to the hype. I’ve been in person 3 times and ordered on DoorDash once, and every experience has been great. It gets pretty busy after 10am on weekends, so I’d recommend getting there early. The staff is always super nice and welcoming. The pastries are delicious and practically melt in your mouth. I especially love the croissant, and my husband is obsessed with the chocolate pistachio croissant. I’ve also had the soft scrambled eggs, which are amazing — especially with added prosciutto or smoked salmon.

Egg Cilbir? SO GOOD! Orange Palmier? SO GOOD! Bistro salad? MUST TRY! Orange juice? SO FRESH! Light, fresh, and beautifully done. Everything feels incredible from the flavors to the presentation. The salad is full of texture, with a perfect balance of crunch and softness, and a rich, layered mix of flavors. A perfect, trendy spot for a slow, feel-good brunch.

It’s our ritual to come here for breakfast on a day off. The atmosphere is lovely and the food is consistently good. I also love their cute plates and appreciate the fresh flowers. It does get very busy on weekends, even early in the morning - when we arrived at 8:50 a.m., there were no tables available. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a nice breakfast or brunch in a cozy setting. Love their gooey eggs and ricaotta toast is my absolute favorite.
