Communion

A rooftop dining room above Mission Hills

Communion opened on 21 November 2024 at 901 West Washington Street, on the roof of the Mission Hills development it shares with Paradis. It is the more serious of the two rooms in the building.

Aly Lyng built the baking programme here before moving on to Little While. The negroni riff is worth a stop even if you are not eating. Book the outside tables; the inside ones are fine but you came for the view.

From the moment we walked in with my party we were attended to with such great hospitality. Came in to celebrate a friends birthday and they could not have made such a more phenomenal experience. Cocktails and mocktails had flavor and the food was deliciously scrumptious.

I really enjoyed this place. The food was excellent. I had the pasta bolognese, which was delicious. The cocktails were OK, but since we sat at the bar, it was apparent that the quality of cocktails was reduced. My old fashioned was served with regular ice whereas the others going to the main saloon were served with the nicer and better cube ice. If they are doing happy hour, do it right and ensure people get a high experience, especially given the high tab. The service was OK. It lot spectacular. In fact, it seems the waiter took issue with me asking him to change the ice, after which he did not paid that much attention took to us. We still left a 20% gratuity. The views from this place are amazing! This is definitely a great place for a nice dinner. Yet, there is some room for improvement.

This is one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment you walk in, the host is attentive and efficient. The service is impeccable. The cocktails are inspired. I love the scope and breadth of the wine list. I can’t say enough good things about the food. The Dry Aged Crispy While Duck is one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. I’ll dream about it. So many fun, interesting and shareable items on the menu. It was hard to limit ourselves. We chose the Zucchini Dolma, Melon Salad, Penthouse Nuggets, Little Gems, Octopus and Crab Pave. Everything was seasoned without fear and perfect. The view is spectacular and the décor so creatively thoughtful. We knew we would be enjoying adult beverages and took rideshare. i suggest that. The cocktails and wine are begging for a second and third selection. Go here!!!!!

Have been a couple of times, with 6-8 people each visit, while vacationing in SD and have had nothing but amazing experiences. Food, drinks and service were impeccable every time. Menus are amazing and make it hard to choose so we usually pick many selections and share. Have to especially recognize how PERFECTLY cooked our steaks were as we are super picky with how we like them. The entire staff there was always been attentive, friendly and accommodating. The manager Marisa was beyond kind To us each time all while being pregnant and working hard to make sure every table was pleased in every way. Our go to place when visiting the area. Can't wait to return in October!

The food was 10/10 no notes. We had one chefs tasting experience and ordered more off the menu. The chefs tasting experience can be paired with wine (we skipped this and opted for cocktails instead). You choose an app a main course and dessert. We had the house-made penthouse chicken nuggets, the lobster pasta, and a cheesecake. We also ordered steak frites, burrata, and three drinks. Drinks were : fleeting flowers, golden tempo and chica bonita. My personal fave was chica bonita. The experience was amazing we arrived after sunset and got to take beautiful almost fully panoramic views of the city and got some personal photo opps as well with the cityline behind us. Its very vibey at the restaurant. I was treated like a princess from start to finish by the staff who were all so attentive and amazing ( AND I MEAN PHENOMENAL) service and energy about them. I have to name drop out waiter Jay he was easily the best part of the experience as it was my first time at the restaurant he was extremely knowledgable and was able to guided me through my choices the entire night. (Though I dont think you can go wrong with anything on the menu at this point we hit jackpot on food, service, atmosphere, wait time, cleanliness. Which is difficult for most restaurants in my experience) We will definitely be returning here !
