Una Mas

★ 4.5 · 68 reviews San Diego Opened August 2025

Ensenada seafood and a knowing riff on Taco Bell

Una Más opened on Adams Avenue in Normal Heights in August 2025 at number 2611. Jeff Lozano put it together with Danny Romero of The Lion's Share and Ian Ward of Ponyboy consulting on the menu, with Real Coronado, who cooked in Tijuana at Casa de Coronados and Savage, running the kitchen.

The food is Ensenada-style and seafood-heavy, with a strand of the menu that started as a joke about an upgraded Taco Bell and stayed because it worked. Nachos, an escabeche pickle dip, coconut things. Order from both sides of the menu.

Good ambiance but the food needs some work. How is the word “ceviche” attached to this monstrosity? Pico de gallo plus fish chunks costs $13? I thought we had real Mexican Mexicans running this place.

Food is unbelievably good, service was amazing, awesome spot for kids to hang and have fun. Couldn’t be better!

Been coming here since it opened! Love the food, the drink selection and especially the staff! Very attentive, friendly and KNOWS how to pour a proper pint!!! Great outdoor space and a little area for kiddos. Great to see craft beer for Mexico that you usually can't find easily!

UPDATED Returned to Una Más about 8 months after my first visit and it’s good to see some progress. Big upgrade: they now have beer on tap, including several from Baja California plus some domestics, which definitely improves the overall experience. Food is still the highlight. I ordered the same Grilled Cheese burrito as last time and it was just as good. We also tried a few tacos—the potato taco was easily the standout. Service was just average. The person at the counter wasn’t very helpful with recommendations and not particularly friendly, which took away a bit from the visit. That said, the atmosphere is still great—casual, welcoming, and very family-friendly. Overall, it feels like they’re moving in the right direction. If the service catches up to the food, this place could really shine. Checked out UnaMas on Adams recently and there’s a lot of promise here—but also some early kinks that need ironing out. Let’s start with the food, which is where UnaMas shines. The Grilled Cheese Burro was an absolute standout—rich, gooey, and indulgent in all the right ways. The stuffed poblano was just the right amount of spicy. It’s the kind of dish you think about long after you leave. The Tuna Crudo was also excellent: mango habanero, bright, fresh, and beautifully plated with balanced flavors and blue corn chips that elevated the entire experience. On the flip side, the tacos—while tasty—were very small. At this price point, I expected either more quantity or more substance. Service felt a bit underwhelming—servers seemed distracted or stretched thin, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt since the place is still new and probably finding its rhythm. The biggest letdown? No beer available, which was surprising considering recent press highlighting their impressive tap selection. Hopefully, that’s just a temporary issue. All in all, there’s a great concept here and flashes of brilliance in the kitchen. I’ll definitely give UnaMas another shot once they’ve had time to settle in and live up to their potential.

Una Mas is a really cute new local spot. They open at 8 a.m., and it’s perfect if you want to grab a morning coffee. Inside the restaurant, there’s a small food-truck setup, which makes the place feel unique and charming. They serve burritos and mini burritos—just the right size for an early breakfast. The whole place feels warm and welcoming, and it’s thoughtfully decorated with kids in mind. The fireplace adds a cozy touch. And I have to mention Derek. He absolutely brings this place to life with his energy—positive, bright, vibrant vibes. Thank you, Derek, for the great conversation and the good energy. They started serving breakfast around Black Friday, and it’s quickly becoming one of the nicest local spots to stop by. Highly recommend.
