Baikohken Ramen

ā˜… 4.5 Ā· 191 reviews San Diego Opened March 2024

A Hokkaido ramen shop's first mainland US branch

The house double soup blends pork and chicken; order the shoyu before you get clever. This is only the chain's second US branch and its first on the mainland, after Honolulu opened the first in 2017.

The original ramen shop opened in Hokkaido in 1969 and earned a spot in Michelin's Hokkaido guide in 2012 and 2017. It now runs seven branches in Japan and six abroad, including this one in the old Menya Ultra space on University Avenue.

One of the most authentic Japanese Ramen restaurants in San Diego. Ever since we first discovered it we have been enjoying their customer service and food at least once a month. Highly recommend:)

Had to stop by and try this ramen straight from Japan! I can tell you it was authentic from my visits to Japan, and you can taste the care they put into each bowl. We tried the shoyu, corn butter miso and spicy pork belly tonkatsu; all of them were so delicious and rich without feeling heavy. The shoyu broth is very clean and flavorful, the egg was perfectly jammy and marinated, the noodles were chewy, the chashu had great flavor and was nicely tender. Absolutely worth it, go eat it and appreciate the effort that goes into each bowl!

The food was excellent! šŸœ It was great value for the appetizers, ramen, and beers we ordered. Would for sure come back to try some of their many other ramen options. Chicken Karage was great to start! Very crispy and the sauce on the side was superb. We ordered extra sauce we like it so much. Also loved their Spicy Ramen. Give it a go if you like spice 🌶 šŸš— Parking here is so bad, but you can get lucky depending on when you come. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't terrible and we also had zero wait. Staff was all so friendly!

@baikohken_usa in San Diego got a super cozy vibe that’s perfect for a chill night out or a catch-up with friends. It’s famous for its variety of broths - we’re talkin’ shio , creamy miso and refreshing shoyu, to name a few. And let’s not forget the food! Their crispy chicken karaage is a game-changer, with that perfect crunch giving way to juicy, flavorful chicken. But hold up, the sides are where it really shines - their croquette, takoyaki is a must-try, and those fries are straight fire! šŸ˜‹ You gotta try ā€˜em.

Delicious ramen. We got their signature and it was so tasty and the noodles were cooked perfectly. We also had their croquettes and karage which were also very tasty. Deifntiely want to come back to try their other broths.
