Home-style plates and serious cocktails near the swing bridge

NIDO means nest in Spanish, and the food lives up to it. Expect home-style cooking rather than fine dining, the kind of plates a neighbor might set in front of you, a block from Carmelo's swing bridge.

The bar holds its own too, with a cocktail list that goes well beyond the usual spritz. Book through WhatsApp only, they skip calls and Instagram messages despite posting often. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

We were recommended this spot by our bnb host and it was soooo good! When you step in you get a waft of incense and a homey feel. The atmosphere seeks to replicate nature with tree branches and plant reminders all around. There’s details everywhere and you can tell they put some effort into the space. The food was delightful. The pumpkin raviolis in 4 cheese sauce were so good we ordered them twice! The pumpkin filling was gently sweet and had a hit of nutmeg and cinnamon with little crunchy bits of walnut (?). We had the Milanese Fiorenze (?) one night, which was crunchy and had the zing of the roasted tomatoes and the saltiness of the melted cheese and the accompanying sweet potato gnocchis were satisfyingly chewy. We also had the chef’s special, a chicken with a mushroom sauce and caramelized sweet potato—the chicken was super tender and the sauce was perfect (flavorful, earthy, with a hint of wine and maybe butter?). We had the non alcoholic mango mojito cocktail the pinky. Both were delicious—I enjoyed the pinky more as it was zesty, sweet and with a hint of that ginger spice. We also had dessert there and loved what we got so much we ordered it twice on different days. I was obsessed with the pear poached in tannat (it was on a little coconut flour cup/nest and served with the tannat sauce/glaze and ice cream). My hubby loved the mojito cake, the first night he got it with a mint syrup (I wasn’t crazy about it) and the 2nd night he got it with a garnish of mint leaves and that was on point!. The price point was excellent and the food was some of the best we’ve had in Uruguay over the last 8 months. We’ll be back! No photos, we were too busy enjoying the food.

Just a block from the Carmelo bridge, in a lovely neighborhood, Nido turned out to be the perfect spot for our anniversary dinner. The place feels cozy and welcoming right from the start, and the waiters greeted us warmly, setting the tone for the evening. We began with a pitcher of sangria and spinach & cheese croquettes. The sangria was refreshing, and the croquettes were crunchy with a rich, flavorful filling... great way to kick things off. For mains, we tried the Falafel del Oriente and the Chicken Milanesa Nido. Both dishes came in generous portions and were delicious, balancing taste and presentation beautifully. The atmosphere, the food, and the service all came together to make it an awesome night. Nido is one of those places that sets the mood effortlessly. Loved it... and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Carmelo.

Excellent restaurant in a beautiful setting by the river. Our favourite restaurant in Uruguay and definitely the best in Carmelo. Highly recommended

Such a lovely restaurant! Great vibe and lovely staff. It was very busy on a Wednesday evening and we didn't have a reservation but the charming man on the door found us a spot within half an hour. All the food was delicious (the lamb Sorrento I was amazing!) and the local wine by the glass is great and super affordable. Highly recommend - you'll have a lovely time!
