Live jazz and proper cocktails on Mary Street
Head up to the second floor of 169 Mary Street and you'll find a room built for both a good drink and a good band. The cocktail list holds its own against the music, which is the real trick here.
Music runs most nights from around eight. The French Exit sits downstairs in the same building, so one address covers a whole night out. Dress code is loose, the room is not.

A top spot! We went here on Sunday afternoon as a larger group of 11. From the moment we arrived the staff were lovely and attentive with quick table service. It was relatively quiet being a Sunday afternoon, but the space has a great style and feel about it regardless. The food menu was substantial for a cocktail bar setting, with the Le Royale burger deserving special mention. Will absolutely be back!

We went here to finish out our night and had a blast! We were served by a new starter who was absolutely lovely and getting attention to order drinks was surprisingly simple given how lively the venue is. The only weird part that leaves a negative impression was when halfway through finding us our table our wonderful female hostess was spoken over by a male manager who attempted to place us instead, despite her already securing us a table. The ambience was certainly ruined for a bit as we somewhat abruptly told him we to go away since we were already being looked after. We can certainly understand the busy environment and hope it was just that, but none the less it's one of the more uncomfortable first impressions from a venue. Once seated our hostess saved the day and had delicious drinks in our hand ASAP 🎉

Lovely bar with great cocktails, but not a good place for a special occasion, in my experience. I had my birthday drinks here, and found the whole experience very cold and impersonal. Firstly, I arrived a few minutes early and was made to wait on the street downstairs, which didn't feel great. I could see that there were free seats at the bar, too. Secondly, once I was seated and my guests arrived, the table service was very sporadic and it was hard to get served. We felt ignored at best, unwelcome at worst. Finally, as the end of our booking approached (only 90 minutes, which isn't ideal for an event either... we would've happily bought more drinks but anyway...) we were very unceremoniously rushed to pay and leave. The whole experience tainted my evening and made me feel very uncomfortable. I've been here for casual drinks with a friend before and had a better experience, so I would return in that context, but I would never consider coming here for a special occasion again.
