Steak, one menu, no distractions

Vice does one thing: steak, with a wine list built to match it plate for plate. It's tucked into Odgers Lane, the closest thing Civic has to a proper laneway strip, and the room fills fast once word gets around.

Skip the appetizer scroll, there isn't one. Book ahead for Friday, the lane gets loud and the tables go quick.

Yum!!! Steak was insane. Best I've had in a long time. 10/10 for food. Expensive but worth it. Service was good, really friendly staff. Was a bit slow towards the end but they were full by that point. Will defo go back.

Tonight we dined at Vice and came away thoroughly impressed. To start, we had the focaccia, which my partner declared the best she’s ever had. She’s still talking about it and will be for a long while yet. For mains, we had the steak (naturally) with sides of mac and cheese and broccolini. Before ordering, the staff took the time to clearly explain how everything worked, which was appreciated. We’d seen a few reviews mentioning confusion around the setup, but that certainly wasn’t our experience. The steak was exceptional, genuinely the best steak I’ve had, full stop, not just in Canberra. Cooked perfectly, packed with flavour, and paired beautifully with the sides. To finish we had the lava cake, a perfect chocolatey sweet finish to a perfect meal. Vice has officially become my go-to steak restaurant in Canberra. It’s absolutely worth a visit if you’re looking for a quality dining experience. While not the cheapest, you get what you pay for! A big thank you to the team for a fantastic meal and excellent service. We’ll definitely be back.

It’s an interesting experience. They do pretty much one thing: steak 🥩 with some side dishes and drinks. If you are looking for varieties in dishes, you are in the wrong place. If you like steak and can spend, it’s not bad at all. How is the food? Well, it depends. It’s rib eye cook medium rare (I think you will get thrown out if you ask for well done 🤣). Very thick cut bone-in. Would be medium near the bone and maybe rare a bit in the middle. But the meat is extremely high quality so it doesn’t really matter much. Good ingredients give a lot of leeway. Steak by default only comes flavour with salt flakes(again very high quality ingredients, it’s good enough for most people). I do recommend you ask for tasting sauce tray (see photos). Why not experience every combination of flavours the meat can offer? You WILL need the sides. The creaminess of the sides will reduce saltiness of the salt and complement the steak flavour. They have dessert but you might as well get a drink 🥃 instead. Drinks: heaps of options: drinks. If you need a drink, you can get it. They also stock a varieties of very good whisky 🥃. Their sommelier is excellent. People who like whisky can spend quite a bit here. Pricing: Let get it out of the way, it’s not a cheap restaurant. If you come here for dinner, expect to spend over $100 per person with drinks. Service: was excellent for me. It prob helps I was in a group. But it’s an upscale place so if you are not happy with something, speak up. Location: It’s below Molly bar. To get in it’s at the corner of the court (south east corner), the door is on the left of that corner. Do I recommend this? Yes if you like steak, can spend, and want to experience something different. Reservations recommended. Environment: Music not too loud so you don’t need to scream when talking. The bar right upstairs, so you can hear people walking. The lighting is too dark in some places (It seems to be the trend and I hate it with a passion). Toilet could be cleaner. Considering how upscale it is. I expect the toilet to be gold plated 😤 and spotless.

Absolutely outstanding. The Espresso Martini was next‑level — smooth, bold, and easily the best I’ve had in Canberra. The steak was on another level too, cooked to absolute perfection and super tasty. Vice nailed it. Can’t wait to go back.

Where have you been all my life?! Found this restaurant through a last minute reservation for Valentine’s day. Lucky that the hostess called and said she can accommodate us for dinner. The restaurant set up was perfect. Tucked in an alley way in the Melbourne building. The space is open, moody with a hint of funkiness. The portraits were interesting and the mid to late 90s music blasting made us reminisce about our party years. The staff were great. Friendly, knowledgeable but still gave us some space to enjoy our experience. Lastly, the rib-eye on the bone steak. OMG. Cooked to perfection! Paired them with duck fat chats and greens which complimented well with the meat. I see that they’ve only been around for less than a year and this restaurant deserves to be recognised. We will come back for more!
