Indian grill and bar in the middle of the CBD
Skip the usual curry house script. Amaranta runs its Indian menu through a proper grill and pairs it with a serious bar list, right on Murray Street in Hobart's CBD.
It's one of the few places that stays open on public holidays, which counts for a lot in this city. Go for lunch if you want the room to yourself.

This is my 2nd time visiting Hobart for leisure from Hunter Valley NSW. We came here for lunch and dinner 12 months ago and were so impressed by the food that we had to come back and it didn’t disappoint. Having been to various Indian restaurants around the world including Delhi, I could easily say that this is one of our favourites. The Masala Dosa is FANTASTIC! (Why can’t we get this at home?). Highly recommended.

The food was amazing and the portions were quite nice as wells. The use of spices was a beautiful melody of flavors that made us simply pause… look at each other … and say this is amazing! We tried all types of dishes and were pleased with them all so much we ordered more:)

We discovered Amaranta by chance, and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Hobart. From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality made us feel genuinely welcome. The food was simply outstanding—every dish was bursting with authentic flavour, perfectly balanced spices, and cooked to perfection. The tenderness and quality of the ingredients really stood out. Without a doubt, this was the best Indian food we’ve ever had. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary requirements. We were especially impressed by the wide range of gluten-free and dairy-free options, including gluten-free naan, which is so hard to find. It was the best meal we had during our stay in Hobart, and we can’t wait to return. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience!

Beautiful breakfast at Amaranta. The eggs benedict was perfectly executed — silky hollandaise, quality prosciutto, poached eggs spot on, and gorgeous plating with micro herbs and a smoked paprika finish. The mango mocktail served in a pineapple glass was a refreshing touch, and the rose-petal dessert was a stunning finish. Calm, stylish room, attentive service, and food that looks as good as it tastes. Highly recommend for breakfast or brunch in Hobart.

We had a wonderful time at Amaranta. As per the restaurant’s intention, they really do provide an experience that embodies the essence of Indian hospitality and culinary excellence. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly - and really helpful and accommodating with dietary requirements. There were lots of gluten & dairy free options, including naan. And I love that they only use olive oil and ghee, rather than conventional vegetable oils. Thank you for a great experience, we will be back next time we are in Hobart.
