French wine bar at the Paddington end of Oxford Street
Cheese, charcuterie, something braised if it's cold out. That's the whole menu at L'Avant Cave, and it's right: this is a cave à vin, not a restaurant chasing small plates.
Paddington drinking has thinned out over the last decade, so a proper wine bar on this stretch was overdue. It made Broadsheet's ten best new bars of 2026. Get there early, it fills after eight.

Very welcoming.My first visit was with a fiend we went upstairs to the restaurant.The service and food was excellent.Michael served us on that occasion. Today I was on my way home after a 10k walk with two k’s to go so thought I would drop in for a light lunch almost two hours later I left after a delicious lunch great service by the chap with the hat.I was downstairs a great place to stop on my way home.Having built up credits for my calories. So good to see offal and Venison on the menu. It would be great to see Rabbit Hare Kangaroo on the menu. Thank you I will be back might have to walk a bit further. Coral

The most gorgeous space and delicious food–loved sitting in the courtyard.......very cosy and pleasant and the service was incredible–especially the guy with the beard and hat!
