Father and son, one menu: regional cooking next to burgers and dessert experiments
X opened on Wegscheider Straße in May 2025, run by father and son Adalbert and Philipp Pachinger. The menu deliberately mixes registers: regional, seasonal dishes sit next to burgers and inventive desserts, rather than committing to one style.
That combination, a family kitchen willing to swing between fine dining technique and casual comfort food, makes X stand out in a stretch of Linz not otherwise known for destination dining.

My visit to Restaurant X today was a delightful example of how a lunch menu can impress with meticulous craftsmanship, delicious flavor, and pleasing clarity. For my main course, I chose the Penne Pomodoro with tomato, roasted vegetables, arugula, and Grana Padano. A seemingly simple dish, but precisely for that reason, it demonstrates whether a kitchen truly understands its craft. The pasta was pleasantly balanced, the tomato flavor present but not overpowering, the roasted vegetables added depth and a subtle sweetness, while the arugula and Grana Padano provided freshness, spice, and texture. Not a flashy dish, but one with a classic Italian feel, clean presentation, and harmonious balance. The real highlight came with dessert: quark dumplings with plum compote and vanilla ice cream. The dumplings were attractively rolled in fine breadcrumbs and appeared expertly prepared. Their texture was soft, round, and pleasantly light, without sacrificing substance. The plum compote, with its fruity depth and delicate acidity, provided a beautiful contrast to the mild quark flavor. The vanilla ice cream complemented the dessert with creaminess and a harmonious interplay of temperatures. The combination of classic Austrian dessert tradition and clean, understated presentation was particularly impressive. Warm and cold, fruity and creamy, soft and crumbly – the components blended harmoniously without any one dominating. Overall, Restaurant X offered a lunch menu that went far beyond a mere meal. The kitchen demonstrated down-to-earth approach, an understanding of the ingredients, and a keen sense of balance. This kind of honest, carefully prepared cuisine leaves a lasting positive impression. In conclusion: A thoroughly enjoyable lunch visit with a perfectly balanced penne pomodoro and a dessert that was a particularly convincing classic Austrian finale. Highly recommended.

We had the pleasure of being guests at X Restaurant today as part of the Herring Feast. We received a very warm welcome and enjoyed a pleasant evening in a very cozy atmosphere. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was served buffet-style, with the main courses available for pickup from the show kitchen. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, with the Arctic char fillet being particularly noteworthy. We have rarely eaten such perfectly prepared fish. Highly recommended.

It was simply perfect for us. The service was superb! The food was an absolute highlight – visually stunning and delicious. Every course was perfectly coordinated and cooked to perfection. The caramelized ribeye strips were especially divine! 🤤 It's also worth mentioning that the portions here are still incredibly generous. We went for the Valentine's Day menu and then again two days later to celebrate a birthday, because we were so impressed! A truly wonderful evening – we'll definitely be back!
