Café, gallery and farmers market, steps off the Hastings boardwalk

Artsplash does three jobs at once. Fresh juices and light plates on one side, an art gallery on the same floor, a play park out back for the kids. It sits just off a stretch of coast that's filled up fast with hotel restaurants and beach bars built purely for visitors.

Twice a week a farmers market takes over outside, pulling in a totally different crowd than the breakfast regulars. No single dish carries this place. It's the mix, and the fact it still feels local first, that keeps people coming back.
