A wood grill doing more work than the cocktail list

The wood grill carries this place more than the drinks menu does, cooking raw preparations and grilled dishes with a Southern California sensibility. Stable Palms Club built its patio drinks to match.

Kensington is walkable from downtown across the river. It's worth the walk for the grill alone, cocktails aside. Smoke drifts out onto the sidewalk most evenings, which draws people in.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Stable Palms Club. We were there for lunch and drinks on a Saturday afternoon, and was seated at one of the tables by the front window. The vibes and views were fantastic and the waitresses were very welcoming and accommodating. We had the oysters, tuna zuke, scallop, bread, and fried chicken. We thought all the dishes were worth it, but would suggest the tuna zuke come with crisps or some vessel to eat it with. The pickle martini was done very well. Overall, it was an excellent experience and we would come back!

We absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere was such a cool vibe, the cocktails were excellent, and the service was fantastic. A special thanks to Ben, the manager, for making our experience even better. Our bartender was also friendly, knowledgeable, and made some incredible drinks. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great night out!

First time here, with my wife and our friends. It is such an interesting place and they have a great variety of cocktails that over never seen before. It was so hard to choose, but I loved the Duck Hunt, with the foies gras fat washed Buffalo Trace Bourbon. They have a nice selection of wines and the server was helpful in selecting one. It paired nicely with my perfectly cooked steak frites. We will certainly be back.

Our first time at Stable Palms Club was great! We made a reservation for our anniversary weeks in advance and only had a high top option available. I emailed them to try and get a more comfortable spot since I’m pregnant and they were graciously able to move us. The service was great, food was awesome (especially the burger!) and the space is absolutely beautiful. .5 stars down for the bathroom space though, very few stalls and sink area for the size of the space. Can’t wait to go back and try different things!

This place has really helped elevate Calgary's restaurant scene. The decor is beautiful, and the overall vibe is fantastic. The space isn't huge, but they've strategically placed mirrors throughout the restaurant, making it feel much larger than it actually is. The cocktail menu is extensive, with plenty of interesting options, and the shareable plates are quite impressive. The standout dishes for me were the pizza and the gnocchi. The pizza had a perfectly fluffy crust, and the gnocchi was light and pillowy, coated in a rich, delicious cheese sauce. The beef tartare wasnt too bad, and I especially enjoyed the chips that accompanied it. The crudo was fresh and well-executed as well. The mousse was just okay, although the bread served with it was surprisingly excellent. The steak frites was cooked perfectly, and I loved the sauce. Fries were great too. In fact, we ended up using the steak sauce for the duck breast because the duck's sauce was a little too sweet and didn't quite work for us. Unfortunately, the duck itself was also slightly overcooked. The biggest disappointment of the night was the truffle lasagna. The sauce tasted like a heavy, inexpensive Alfredo sauce and overwhelmed the dish. It was rich to the point of being difficult to finish. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and would absolutely come back. The patio is next on my list to check out.
