Fildz

Slavonia's first specialty coffee shop, under the cathedral
Slavonia had no specialty roastery until Fildz opened on the square below Osijek's cathedral. The people behind it built Broom, the specialty coffee spot on Zagreb's Dolac market, and one of them trained in part at Prolog, the well-known Copenhagen roastery. That shows in the espresso and filter menu.
Coffee nerds and curious locals both end up here, half for the cold brew, half for the view. Broom still runs separately in Zagreb, so this is a second project, not a move. Fresh juices and kombucha round out the list, and weekend mornings get busy.

Came across Fildz as I was cycling through Osijek, and was blown away by the quality of their coffee. The city is fortunate to have such a place! I tried their batch brew (Colombian) and a flat white, both of which were superb. The atmosphere was also a great blend of comfy and modern. If I’m ever in town again, I’ll definitely be stopping by!

To be honest, the photos and reviews suggested an "insta" style cafe aka good aesthetic but mid/bad coffee so I wanted to see/try it for myself. I am glad to report that the coffee is great (we had a latte and a small coffee with milk) as well as the service. Also I have to commend the server for being patient with some customers who said things like "I drink nesica at home, can you get me something like that" (yes I am a coffee snob what can i say 🌝) . The only thing that could be better is the terrace, where we were sitting because the interior was full. It was very windy and kind of too open, like the tables and chairs were thrown about a city square so maybe a pergola or some big umbrellas might help with the comfort level. Can't really fault the owner tho cuz I know they might not be allowed to change/add stuff to the building/outside of the cafe.
