Taberna La Canchánchara
Trinidad Opened Opening date unknown
The birthplace of Trinidad's own rum and honey cocktail
It's touristy by now, appearing on every list of things to do in Trinidad. But the building and the drink both predate the tourism. This is the real version, not a recreation for visitors.
Taberna La Canchánchara occupies an 18th-century building with clay floors and open colonial windows, the closest thing Trinidad has to a birthplace for its namesake cocktail. That's rum, honey, lime and water, served in a small ceramic cup. Live son musicians play through the afternoon.
